The Bellhop

A newly purchased facial expressions book aided with this one. Probably slightly reminiscent of Gene Hackman as the elevator operator in the Royal Tenenbaums. This one summed up how I feel much of the time. Try really hard. Stay determined. But sometimes the actual progress seems disproportionate to the effort put in. Plus, a bellhop that has fallen behind seems really, really, really funny.

Bumbleplane

Someone asked me to draw them a tattoo of a cartoon plane. Though it was at a party and I never could get a hold of them again. Pencil scanned in with Photoshopped color.

Indecision

Miss Teresa got me a Magritte book for Christmas last year. And I was feeling jittery about not being very decisive sometimes. Then I realized how comical it was. This is pastel on brown butcher paper. It can be taken more than one way. Does is show a sensible person that thinks before they speak?; Or does it show a neurotic person desparately wanting to come off as decisive, intelligent, and having conviction? :)

Las Vegas Convention Center Renderings - 2007

Some images I worked on for the Las Vegas Convention Center proposal for HNTB. It was a collaborative design effort with Mr. Scott Capstack, Jason Essel, and Chris Beshears, among others. I spent alot of my time getting the camera angles and the lighting right. I also did some work on the louver designs. Essentially I'd like to think I helped to make the presentation "pretty" and cinematic.

Drew this one while in Italy for a semester. In college I found myself getting frustrated with trying to conform exactly with the predefined speeds and methods for assignments. Finally I realized that all that was irrelevant and that we all have our own way of doing things. To me it is this way that keeps us going. And as long as we're still going, then we're still learning.

Also drew this one in Italy. At this time we had been charged with trying to solve, through architecture, a meeting place that people could exchange ideas (pretty much your usual aspiring, philosophical, and yet comically quizzical assignment). Kinda looks like the precursor to the blog. This drawing was also supposed to be part of a geometry study. So if you're good enough at BS, you could probably site a number of golden rectangles and root 2 rectangles in this drawing, but don't bet on it.

Larry Bird

Caricature assignment for high school cartooning. Larry Bird seemed like the easy target. Dramatic features. Other than being 6'-10" tall, you'd never suspect this guy to be one of the alltime greats.
